Tokyo Unveils Two Iranian Children’s Books
TEHRAN (IBNA) -- Two books released by Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA or Kanoon) in Iran whose copyrights had already been sold to a Japanese publisher have been published in Japan.
The news come after the international activities of IIDCYA to sell the copyrights of its books, this time to Kanoa Publishing in Japan which has purchased the rights of ‘Colors’ authored and illustrated by the late Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.
The other book is titled ‘I have a Word which only You Children Will Believe It’ by eminent Iranian poet Ahmad-Reza Ahmadi and illustrated by Abbas Kiarostami.
At a ceremony the two books were unveiled at Izuruba Art Gallery in Ota City, Tokyo on October 9 and 10 in Tokyo with several book activists and interested persons in attendance.
Moreover, an exhibition of Iranian children’s books published in the 1970s was held there. In that ceremony, Kimiko Yamamoto, an expert on Abbas Kiarostami’s works, made a speech about the poetic images that are visible in the works of the late artist, especially in his two newly published works in Japan.
The comment of a 20-year-old Japanese reader who attended the event about the book ‘I have a Word which only You Children Will Believe It’ reads: “When I studied the book, I thought to myself it is worth reading and it will always be a precious work regardless of time and tendency.”
“Both images and text convey a message and seem to enjoy a sort of metaphor. I think such an excellent book can transcend time and make it possible to establish a dialogue between the author and the reader, or for the reader to have a monologue with and contemplate on himself.”
