Iran: U.S. Lacks Political Will to Revive Deal

TEHRAN -- Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday that the United States lacked the political will for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal.
“We do not do talks for the sake of talks. Iran is ready for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, but it seems Washington does not have the political will,” ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said in televised news conference.
U.S. actions are “hypocritical,” he said, adding the Americans have sent several messages to Iran expressing their readiness to return to the accord, but at the same time made statements that the negotiations are not on their agenda as they support the riots.
Kanaani decried the “illegal” stance of Western countries, including the United States, on the recent riots in Iran, vowing to respond with reciprocal measures to “non-constructive” sanctions imposed on Tehran.
The Islamic Republic, he said, is a responsible country that adheres to international obligations, adding it will respond to those actions within the framework of international laws.
“In the upcoming days, we will see a proportionate and reciprocal reaction to the recently imposed sanctions,” he said.
The European Union and some western countries have imposed sanctions on Iran over its approach toward the recent riots.
He also rejected U.S. allegations that Iranian military personnel are on the ground in Russian-occupied Crimea to help Moscow carry out drone attacks in Ukraine.
“We strongly reject this news,” Kanaani told reporters, when asked about the White House claim.
Kanaani said Washington “aims to deviate the public opinion from the destructive role they have in the Ukraine war by standing on one side of the conflict and heavily exporting weapons and equipment to Ukraine”.
Iran has denied supplying Russia

with weapons for use in Ukraine, and the Kremlin has accused the West of seeking to put “pressure” on Tehran with the allegations.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly announced that it is not a party to the war in Ukraine,” Kanaani added.
“We are not exporting weapons to any side of the conflict for war in Ukraine.”
