Iranian City Future Destination for International Travelers

TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The ancient town of Khaf in northeast Iran’s Khorasan Razavi Province is regarded as an emerging destination for international travelers.
According a provincial official, Khaf was the 11th package tour of foreign sightseers in the current Persian year.
“38 Travelers from Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan, Poland, New Zealand, and Australia visited Khaf in the current year,” the official said in a Sunday statement.
Many of the travelers have said the historical attractions, and the warm and hospitable behavior of the people of Khaf attracted their attention, the official added.
The ancient city of Khaf is home to numerous ancient windmills. It is also known as an open-air museum of centuries-old mosques with significant architecture in northeast Iran.
Made of natural clay, straw, and wood, the windmills are the most dominant and intelligent ancient masterpieces throughout the extensive period of Persian history.
The windmills have been milling grain for flour for an estimated 2,000 years.
Iran seeks UNESCO recognition for arrays of its ancient windmills that can be found in the provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan and South Khorasan as well.
In 2002, the windmills were recognized as a national heritage site by Iran.
