UN Envoy Discusses Yemen Peace in Tehran

TEHRAN -- Iranian foreign minister’s senior advisor in political affairs Ali Asghar Khaji and UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg here Sunday reviewed the latest developments and strategies for solving the crisis in the impoverished Arab country and reaching a long-lasting solution.
Khaji stressed the need to implement commitments outlined in the ceasefire agreement by the Saudi-led coalition of war on Yemen. He called for the rapid removal of obstacles to the transfer of humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people, particularly the country’s economic blockade by Saudi Arabia and its allies.
Grundberg outlined steps taken by the United Nations to advance peace talks in Yemen, stressing the need for continued political dialogue aimed at building more confidence among the warring parties.
The envoy said an extension of the ceasefire is the best option available for achieving peace, he calling on the warring parties to be more flexible on the issue.
