Iranians Celebrate Day of Abu Reyhan Biruni

TEHRAN (IRNA) – The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has marked September 4, which is the Day of Abu Reyhan Biruni, an Iranian polymath.
Kanaani wrote on his Instagram account on Sunday that the civilizational geography of Iran in terms of culture has experienced numerous male and female scientists, whose scientific works, innovations, and inventions helped globalize Iranian-Islamic culture and civilization.
He also mentioned that Shahrivar 13 (September 4) is the day of commemorating Abu Reyhan Biruni, a renowned Iranian-Islamic philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer as well as the National Day of Astronomy.
This year has been registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List 2023-2022 as the 1050th birth anniversary of the great polymath, Kanaani added.
We are proud that today’s young scientists of Iran follow such prominent scholars to develop the country and create modern Islamic-Iranian civilization through presenting stunning achievements in science and technology, the spokesman noted.
Abu Rayhan Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Biruni, commonly known as al-Biruni, was a Khwarazmian Iranian scholar and polymath during the Islamic Golden Age.
He has variously been called the founder of Indology, comparative religion, modern geodesy, and the first anthropologist.
Biruni was born on September 4, 973 AD and passed away on December 13, 1048.
