Much Applauded Movie Off to ‘Love Is Folly’
TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The 30th edition of the “Love Is Folly” International Film Festival in Bulgaria has been set to screen Iranian ‘The Reversed Path’ (The Contrary Route).
Directed by Abolfazl Jalili, the 98-minute movie is about a teenager who wants to become a filmmaker but faces many obstacles.
“Emkan is a 17-year-old teenager who has not seen his father for many years and his mother has late-night manufacturing shifts. He decides to make a movie with a small video camera to add some variety to his everyday existence, but he lacks the necessary skills. He tries his best to achieve his goal…,” a synopsis for the film reads.
The cast list of ‘The Reversed Path’ includes Mahdiyar Asghari, Masoud Naji, and Pouyan Shokri.
The film went on screen at some global events, including the Beijing International Film Festival in China, the Jaipur International Film Festival in India, the Asian Film Festival Barcelona in Spain, the Iranian Cinema Festival of Chantilly in France, and the Shanghai International Film Festival in China, where it won the awards for Best Director and Best Actor.
Born in 1957, Jalili is a writer and director. He is considered one of the members of the Iranian new wave and started making amateur films at the age of 16 and made more than eleven documentaries, three short and two medium-length films.
Established in 1993, the “Love is Folly” International Film Festival is the “doyenne” of the international film festivals in Bulgaria, according to the website of the event.
The festival’s goal is to show the most recent works in the realm of the seventh art, and it screens more than 90 films each year from both the Bulgarian and international film lists.
The upcoming edition of “Love is folly” will be held on August 26-September 4.
