TEHRAN -- Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian said on Saturday Iran is determined to bolster relations with African states, especially Nigeria.
Amir-Abdollahian told Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zubairu Dada here that the current volume of cooperation between Iran and Nigeria is not on par with the capacities of the two states is far from the desirable level.
He touched on the current administration’s policy to engage with African countries, saying the Islamic Republic seen no restrictions on development of relations with Nigeria.
The minister said the sixth joint economic commission meeting of the two countries which was held with Dada’s visit is an important step in developing mutual relations.
Amir-Abdollahian further conveyed President Ebrahim Raisi’s invitation for his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari to pay an official visit to Tehran.
Dada, for his part, thanked Iran for the successful holding of the joint economic commission, saying there are many opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
He expressed hope that the implementation of agreements reached at the meeting will help increase the level of trade cooperation between the two states.
Dada also expressed Nigeria’s readiness to increase cooperation with Iran in various areas.
