Neymar Strikes From Penalty Spot to See Off Japan
TOKYO (Reuters) - A penalty from Neymar gave Brazil a 1-0 victory over Japan in a friendly at the new National Stadium in Tokyo on Monday.
After second-half substitute Richarlison had been brought down in the box by Wataru Endo in the 77th minute, Neymar made no mistake from the spot for his third penalty in two matches, having scored two just four days ago in Brazil’s 5-1 win over South Korea.
The PSG forward has 74 goals in 119 matches for his country, just three short of Pele’s all-time record of goals for Brazil.
Tite’s side dominated from the start but wasted many chances. However, their victory sees them extend their unbeaten run to 13 matches, while Japan are still waiting for their first victory against the five-time World Cup winners after 13 meetings.
