Iran Seeks Asian Bloc Help to Fight Terrorism
TEHRAN – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian has called for using the capacities of the Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) conference to battle terrorism and extremism.
In a meeting with Executive Director of CICA Secretariat Kairat Sarybay here, Amir-Abdollahian highlighted the importance of the CICA’s role in regional and international developments.
He also underlined the need to increase the organization’s capacities as much as possible in the face of key regional issues, particularly the fight against terrorism and extremism.
The foreign minister pointed to Iran’s principled support for strengthening and boosting the standing of the CICA and its initiatives.
Amir-Abdollahian also hailed good relations and cooperation between Iran and Kazakhstan.
For his part, Sarybay thanked Iran for its constructive participation and collaboration in the body’s regional activities and briefed Amir-Abdollahian on the activities of the CICA’s secretariat.
The Kazakh diplomat further outlined the conference’s future programs, including planning for the 6th summit of CICA member states in September and the initiative of turning the organization into an international body.
Sarybay also welcomed the membership of Iranian personalities and institutions in the workings of the CICA, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
