Official: Figures Show Sharp Increase in Iran-Tajikistan Trade

TEHRAN– The spokesperson for Iran’s Customs Office Ruhollah Latifi on Sunday pointed to a nearly five-fold increase in the value of trade exchanges with Tajikistan, saying their economic interaction have improved dramatically after the Iranian president’s visit to Tajikistan in 2021.
In comments ahead of the Tajik president’s visit to Tehran, Latifi said Iran and Tajikistan have exchanged over 139,000 tons of non-oil goods worth $131 million in the previous Iranian year, which ended on March 20.
He said the figures show a 489% rise in the weight and a 463% rise in the value of trade exchanges between Iran and Tajikistan compared to a year before.
According to the spokesman, the value of Iranian exports to Tajikistan in the previous Iranian year surpassed $91 million, marking a 535% increase compared to a year earlier.
The trade relations between Iran and Tajikistan have begun to rise by several times following Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s trip to Dushanbe in September 2021, Latifi added.
He went on to say that the trade ties between the two Persian-speaking nations fall below expectations considering their historical, linguistic, cultural and religious commonalities.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon visited Iran on Sunday.
