Zionist Regime’s Crackdown Sign of Desperation
TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian has denounced the occupying regime of Israel’s violent crackdown on worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque, saying resistance is alive while the Zionists are in desperation.
“The Zionist regime has certainly become too weak to withstand the uprising of the Palestinian people and the resistance that created the epic of Operation Al-Quds Sword,” Amir-Abdollahian said in a phone conversation with Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.
“Today, resistance is at its best situation while the Zionist terrorist regime is at its weakest position,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
Amir-Abdollahian said the brazen attack was the result of the betrayal by certain Arab and Muslim countries of the Palestinian cause through normalizing ties with the occupying regime of Israel.
More than 150 Palestinian worshipers were injured when Israeli forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied Old City of Al-Quds on Friday.
The top Iranian diplomat reiterated the Islamic Republic’s support for an independent Palestine, with East Al-Quds as its capital. Amir-Abdollahian said he would continue diplomatic consultations with his counterparts from Muslim countries to bring an end to the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinians.
Haniyeh, for his part, expressed his appreciation for Iran’s support for the Palestinian cause.
He called for more diplomatic efforts by Muslim countries, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the UN Security Council to stop Israel.
Also on Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the Zionist regime is blatantly violating human rights principles and the international law through committing crimes in Al-Aqsa Mosque. Khatibzadeh hit out at the occupying regime’s “shameless” acts of violence at holy sites in Palestine and against the fasting people and worshipers at the mosque in the month of Ramadan.
The Iranian spokesman also said the Zionist regime will in no way change its behavior toward the Palestinians and keep committing crimes against the oppressed nation.
“We are now witnessing the unbridled violence of this apartheid and racist regime,” he said.
“The crimes of the Zionists against the oppressed Palestinian people show the deepening weakness
of this occupying regime, which is only resorting to assaults on the defenseless worshipers to cover up its hollow power,” the spokesman said.
Khatibzadeh also urged Muslim nations to support Al-Aqsa Mosque. He said the Zionist regime and its regional and international allies are responsible for the consequences of the Zionist measures in Al-Quds and Palestine. The Iranian official called for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to candidly come out in support of al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Zionist regime has stepped up its deadly acts of aggression across the Palestinian territories since the beginning of Ramadan, as a result of which Palestinians have put up a stronger resistance.
At least two dozen Palestinians have been martyred in Israeli fire since March 22. Zionist prime minister Naftali Bennett has given Israeli forces a free hand to attack Palestinians.
