10 Al-Qaeda Terrorists Escape From Prison in Yemen’s South
ADEN (Xinhua) – Ten militants with
Al-Qaeda’s branch in Yemen have escaped from a prison in Yemen’s southeastern province of Hadhramout run by the Saudi-allied militants, an official told Xinhua.
“The prison break occurred when a number of prisoners attacked wardens in a prison in Seiyun city,” the local official said on condition of anonymity.
The 10 Al-Qaeda members who managed to break prison have been charged with launching terror operations in Yemen, he added.
A huge manhunt has been carried out for the fugitives, the official told Xinhua.
The Yemen-based Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula militant group has claimed responsibility for many high-profile attacks in the country, in an attempt to exploit years of conflict between the Yemeni forces and Saudi-led coalition militants and mercenaries to expand its presence in the war-ravaged country.
