Leader: Opposite Side in Vienna Talks Helpless

TEHRAN – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday told state officials not to wait for the results of the talks in Vienna to remove sanctions on Iran, urging them to press ahead with efforts to make draconian sanctions toothless.
“In your plans, absolutely don’t wait for the nuclear negotiations and instead move forward with your work. Do not let your work be disrupted if the negotiations reach positive or semi-positive or negative results,” he told heads of the three branches of power and state officials in a meeting here.
Talks between Iran and the remaining signatories of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal have reached a final stage, but the U.S. is refusing to make a political decision on undoing past wrongs against the Islamic Republic.
“Things are going well” in the negotiations and the negotiating team constantly keeps the president and the Supreme National Security Council and others informed, making decisions and moving forward, Ayatollah Khamenei said.
Ayatollah Khamenei Khamenei expressed satisfaction with the resistance of the negotiating team against coercion and excessive demands, praising the negotiating team as revolutionary, faithful and assiduous.
“Our negotiating team has so far resisted the excessive demands of the other side, and God willing, it will continue to do so,” he said.
“The other side, which breached its promise and left the JCPOA now feels helpless and deadlocked, but the Islamic system, which has overcome many problems by relying on the people, will also pass this stage.”
The Leader said all the country’s problems are solvable, rebuking any remark or measure which helps disappoint the masses.
“The system of power of the Islamic Republic and its various achievements in various fields have made Iran an attractive model for nations. To disappoint the people and instill a sense of deadlock is an injustice to the people and the revolution.”
Ayatollah Khamenei touched on some negative economic indicators, saying while there are problems, they can be solved.
“The basis for evaluating and judging the situation of the country and its successes should not solely be economic indicators; other indicators should also be considered and weighed together.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said despite the negative cases in the economy, there are signs of success, one example of which is the resilience of the country’s economy against unprecedented sanctions.
The Leader cited self-sufficiency in some areas, including the production of six types of coronavirus vaccines, foreign debt nearing zero, and scientific, industrial, and technological advances in various fields, as other signs of success.
“Another example of success is the smooth running of the country’s management process, and unlike some other countries, and despite all the hostilities, the country’s management has been handled legally and without the need for extrajudicial actions.
“These achievements and others, such as the expansion of Iran’s strategic depth and spiritual influence in the region, have made the Islamic Republic an attractive example,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
The Leader said the enemy, in line with its whims and greed, keeps making disparaging claims which have been made before, but all of which have proven to be false.
“The fact that arrogant Americans explicitly acknowledge that maximum pressure on Iran has failed miserably is a very important issue that should not be forgotten.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also offered a piece of advice to Saudi rulers regarding their protracted war on Yemen which has developed into a stalemate for years.
“On the issue of Yemen, I have a word of advice for the Saudi gentlemen, which is out of good will. Why do you continue the war that you are sure you will not win?” he said.
“Is it possible for the Saudis to win the war in Yemen? It is not. With the efforts of the Yemeni people, and the courage that their leaders show, and the practical initiative they have in different sectors, there is no chance of victory.
“So why does a war in which there is no chance of victory continue? Find a way out of this war,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader called the recent ceasefire in Yemen as very good, saying if the agreement is implemented in the true sense, it can continue to hold.
“The Yemeni people will undoubtedly win thanks to the efforts, courage and initiative of themselves and their leaders, and God will help these oppressed people.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader praised the awakening of the Palestinian youth inside and outside the 1948 borders, which have seen a rise in resistance against Israeli atrocities in recent days.
“These movements showed that Palestine is alive despite the efforts of the United States and its followers and will never be forgotten and by the grace of God, the final victory will be for the Palestinian people.”
