Jenin Is New Hub of Palestinian Resistance
RAMALLAH (Dispatches) -- A young Palestinian died from wounds he sustained Sunday when Israeli forces raided the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank and opened fire on people protesting against the Zionist regime’s occupation and acts of aggression.
The 17-year-old, identified as Muhammad Hussein Zakarneh, was shot in the pelvis on Sunday evening in the industrial neighborhood of Jenin, according to local sources.
The shooting came as Israeli troops combed the northern West Bank city and the surrounding area, home to two of the Palestinians who staged deadly attacks against Zionists in recent weeks.
The Palestinian Safa news agency reported that Zakarneh was seriously wounded after being shot by Zionist forces, who tried to arrest the mother and brother of Raad Hazem, who attacked and killed three settlers and injured others in Tel Aviv days earlier before he was shot and killed in nearby Jaffa nine hours later.
Later, his body was transferred in an angry march from the hospital to Khalil Suleiman Governmental Hospital in preparation for his funeral which was attended by a large crowd.
On Sunday night, a young Palestinian man was shot and martyred by Israeli forces in the southern West Bank town of Al-Khader west of Bethlehem, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
They shot the 21-year-old victim, identified as Muhammad Ali Ghunaim, at point-blank range.
Earlier in the day, two Palestinian women were martyred by Israeli forces in separate incidents in the occupied West Bank.
One of the women was identified as Ghada Ibrahim Sabatien, a widowed mother of six.
In the southern city of Al-Khalil, a Palestinian woman purportedly stabbed and wounded an Israeli border police officer before she was martyred by Zionist forces.
Ziyad al-Nakhalah, secretary general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement, said he expected a “full-scale and major confrontation with the occupying Israeli regime to spark off at any time”.
“Palestine has a wide range of options on the table. The unity of Palestinian resistance groups is necessary to confront the enemy. Operations against the occupying regime are not simply a reaction to its measures, but rather a natural response from Palestinians living under occupation,” he noted.
Nakhalah went on to say that Palestinians have many options for resistance in the West Bank, Al-Quds, and the Gaza Strip.
“The resistance responds to Zionists. We are ready for a comprehensive confrontation, and cannot turn a blind eye to what is happening in Al-Quds or the West Bank,” the Islamic Jihad chief said.
“We are on the verge of a battle in
the holy Muslim fasting month of] Ramadan. We strongly believe that the occupying Israeli regime, regardless of its weapons, is weak against the willpower of the Palestinian nation.”
The Islamic Jihad leader warned that the Israeli aggression against Palestinians in the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and elsewhere in the West Bank would provoke Palestinian wrath.
“We are in direct confrontation with the occupying regime. A full-scale and major confrontation must be expected to happen at any time,” Nakhalah asserted.
He said, “It is now clear that the Arab countries which normalized ties with Israel have the Palestinian issue forever. They want Palestinians not to respond to the crimes of the occupiers.”
“Arab and Muslim nations should know that Palestinians are getting killed and expelled from their own land before the eyes of Arab monarchs and with their approval,” Nakhalah said.
Members of the Zionist regime’s security cabinet, on Sunday approved a budget of approximately $110 million for the construction of a 40-kilometer-long wall in the northern sector of the occupied West Bank.
They unanimously approved the plan at a meeting convened by extremist prime minis
