Turkmenistan, Iran FMs Discuss Caspian Cooperation

TEHRAN – The foreign ministers of Iran and Turkmenistan have discussed closer cooperation between the two neighbors on issues related to the Caspian Sea.
In a telephone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian and his Turkmen counterpart Rasit Meredow debated international and bilateral issues of mutual interest, especially the need for boosting cooperation among the littoral states of the Caspian Sea.
The Turkmen foreign minister referred to progress made at the expert level in preparing a draft for cooperation on the Caspian issue, science, search and rescue operations and fighting narcotic drugs.
Meredow proposed that a meeting of the foreign ministers of the five Caspian littoral states be held with the aim of expanding multilateral cooperation and paving the way for a summit of their presidents.
Amirabdollahian stressed the need for expansion of friendly ties between Iran and Turkmenistan. Iran, he said, always welcomes regional cooperation to further develop ties, especially with the Caspian states.
