Pilots Who Sacrificed Lives Given Huge Funeral in Tabriz
TEHRAN - People in the Iranian city of Tabriz have held a funeral procession for the pilots of a fighter jet Sadegh Falahi and Alireza Hanifehzad and a civilian who were killed after the plane crashed in an urban area.
Officials say the crash happened due to a technical glitch during a training mission on Monday.
The warplane, an F-5, hit the ground near a school in Tabriz which was empty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The civilian who got killed was sitting inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Second Brigadier-General Reza Yousefi, commander of Shahid Fakouri Air Base in Tabriz, said the crashed jet had been used for training and suffered a technical problem on its final flight.
He also praised them for sacrificing themselves as they managed to land the plane in an open area.
