Iran Eyes Better Balkan Ties as Serbian Speaker Visits

TEHRAN – Speaker of the Iranian parliament Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf said here Sunday that Iran and Serbia can help establish peace, security, and stability in the Balkans and the Middle East regions through boosting their bilateral ties.
Qalibaf made the remarks after a meeting with the visiting Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Vladimir Orlic.
Describing Serbia and Iran as two powerful countries in those regions, Qalibaf said improvement in economic cooperation between the two countries will boost security and stability in the Balkans and in the Middle East.
The Iranian parliament speaker referred to the oil industry and petrochemicals as the sectors in which Iran and Serbia can expand their bilateral relations.
Orlic, for his part, said Belgrade appreciates the Islamic Republic fundamental and sustainable stance on Serbia’s territorial integrity.
He said the fact that the Islamic Republic has not recognized Kosovo indicates that the country is after justice.
The Serbian speaker arrived in the Iranian capital earlier on Sunday at the head of a delegation .
He was expected to meet other senior Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran.
