Egypt Swears In New Ministers After Cabinet Reshuffle
CAIRO (Reuters/Xinhua) – Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi swore in 13 new ministers on Sunday after parliament approved its first major cabinet reshuffle since 2019 a day earlier.
The reshuffle replaced the heads of the ministries of public enterprises, water resources and irrigation, trade and industry, and tourism, among others. Key portfolios including finance, foreign affairs, and supply remained unchanged.
On Saturday, Egypt’s lower house of parliament approved the cabinet reshuffle made by Sisi.
In a short statement, Sisi said the cabinet reshuffle aimed at “revitalizing governmental performance on important issues internally and abroad in order to protect the state’s interests and services provided for Egyptian citizens.”
After deliberation with the prime minister, Sisi called on the House of Representatives to hold a session to discuss the ministerial reshuffle earlier in the day.
A two-thirds majority is required for the president’s reshuffle decision to pass through the parliament.
