Palestinian Martyred, Several Injured in West Bank
RAMALLAH (Dispatches) – A Palestinian was martyred on Thursday during clashes with Zionist troops in the town of Halhul near the southern West Bank city of Al-Khalil, according to Palestinian medics and eyewitnesses.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said in a statement that Mahmoud Abu Ahyour, 27, died in the hospital after he was shot in the abdomen by the occupying regime’s troops during clashes that broke out in the town.
The statement added that five others were injured, including three with live ammunition and two with rubber-coated metal bullets. The five wounded were taken to al-Ahli Hospital in Al-Khalil.
The statement added “the bullet penetrated Abu Ayhour’s abdomen, diaphragm and aorta, and all attempts by Palestinian medical staff to save his life did not succeed.”
The Palestinian foreign ministry described the killing of the 27-year-old as an “execution” by the Zionist regime and called for international protection for the Palestinians.
On Thursday morning, Palestinian eyewitnesses said that clashes broke out in Halhul between Palestinians and Zionist troops when the regime’s forces stormed the town and raided several money exchange shops.
Tensions have been mounting since January. It escalated in March when the regime’s army intensified its raids on Palestinian towns and villages.
Last week, Zionist troops shot dead a Palestinian boy near Ramallah in the West Bank.
The 17-year-old teenage boy, identified as Odeh Mohammad Odeh, was shot dead in the vicinity of the separation wall in the village of al-Midya, west of Ramallah, on June 2, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a brief statement.
The ministry said Odeh was brought to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest, but he succumbed to his wounds despite attempts to save his life.
Earlier in the day, Zionist troops had shot dead 21-year-old Palestinian Ayman Mheisen in al-Dheisha refugee camp south of Bethlehem.
