Iran Atop in Production of Nuclear Medicine in Region
TEHRAN (FNA) - Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami said that the country is standing atop other regional states in the production of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine, and stressed ineffectiveness of the U.S. sanctions.
The U.S. sanctions against Iran and its peaceful nuclear program show Washington’s imprudence and weakness in foreign policy, Eslami said, lauding the Iranian scientists and their efforts for the development of Iran in a note posted on social media on Monday.
He referred to the AEOI’s activities in the production of radiopharmaceuticals, and said, “One of the most important parts of the industry is the production of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals.”
Nuclear medicine is one of the main examples of the use of nuclear energy and nuclear knowledge, which, thanks to the efforts of Iranian experts, the country now does not need any imports in this field, Eslami said.
With the production of more than fifty types of radiopharmaceutical products in line with the world’s standards, Iran is ranked first in the region in the field of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine, the AEOI chief noted.
Eslami announced in December that the country’s scientists had produced 3 new radio medicines.
Addressing a seminar on the development of the use of radiation in the food industry, Eslami pointed to the production of radiopharmaceuticals in Iran, saying that yesterday 3 new radio medicine were unveiled which are considered necessary for the medical sector of the society.
Newly produced radiopharmaceuticals are under the process to receive final licenses to be used by the medical sector, he added.
Eslami added that the three radiopharmaceuticals are produced to treat patients with prostate cancer, and other cancers, including the head and neck and large intestines.
