UNHCR Official Praises Iran for Hosting Afghans
TEHRAN – The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Iran on Monday hailed the Islamic Republic for providing support to Afghan refugees.
Ivo Freijsen said in Mashhad that Iran is shouldering the burden of Afghan refugees without any significant international aid.
He touched on the establishment of three centers in the Iranian provinces of Khorasan Razavi and Sistan and Baluchestan to host Afghan refugees, praising the Islamic Republic for its sacrifices.
Freijsen also deplored the scant aid from international organizations for Afghan refugees in Iran, saying UN member states need to be informed about the situation.
UN chief Antonio Guterres in September hailed Iran as a very influential country among the UN member states and praised the Islamic Republic for generously hosting Afghans.
