Iran National Railway Registered on Global Cultural Heritage List

TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The UNESCO World Heritage List has registered the Iranian National Railway (AKA North-South Railway).
The railway, the 25th Iranian site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, was inscribed during the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee on Sunday.
The railway, now 1,400 kilometers, was established in the 1880s during the reign of Nasser-al-Din Shah from the Qajar Dynasty.
Starting from Bandar Torkaman in Golestan Province and running to Bandar Imam Khomeini in Khuzestan Province, the railway links the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf.
Not only the technical aspect of the railroad’s building, but also its role in Iran’s tourism industry and the magnificent sceneries on its way are of high importance.
The UNESCO organized the extended 44th session of the World Heritage Committee in cooperation with the Host Country, China.
Started on July 16, the meeting will be continued until July 31 in the Chinese city of Fuzhou.
The ongoing session of the committee will also review another Iranian case on Tuesday. The village of Uraman (AKA Hawraman) in Kordestan Province is the next Iranian case shortlisted for the present UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
