FM Zarif Meets President Aliyev in Baku:
Azerbaijan Welcomes Iran’s Participation in Rebuilding Cities
BAKU (Dispatches) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif said here Monday Tehran welcomes a six-party regional cooperation platform contributing to regional peace and stability.
The six-party initiative, put forward recently by the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan, proposes closer trade cooperation among Iran, Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
"Just finished extensive and very fruitful conversations in Baku on bilateral ties & regional cooperation with President of Azerbaijan, Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov,” he tweeted.
"Recipe for sustainable peace lies in inclusive regional arrangements - including transit corridors benefiting all,” he added.
In a meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, the Iranian foreign minister said the Islamic Republic said Tehran is ready to participate in any platform contributing to regional peace, stability and tranquility.
The top Iranian diplomat, who visited Baku on the first leg of a tour of the Caucasus, Russia and Turkey, congratulated the Azerbaijani people and government on their recent victories in Karabakh, which saw the country reclaim a large swath of its occupied territories.
Zarif also stressed the need for closer cooperation between Tehran and Baku, saying the two neighbors are about to witness a leap in their economic cooperation.
Iran, he said, is ready to participate in the reconstruction of the recently-liberated cities and towns in Azerbaijan, especially through exports of technical and engineering services, and cooperation in electricity and energy industries, agriculture, mine-sweeping, and reconstruction of mosques and historical sites.
Aliyev praised Iran’s stance on the recent war and hailed the level of cooperation between the two nations. He said there is a positive atmosphere for expansion of relations in all fields, specifically in the economic field.
