Palestinians Protest Against Zionist Regime’s Annexation Plan

TULKAREM (Dispatches) – Palestinians in the West Bank on Friday rallied to mark 53 years since the Zionist regime’s occupation and protest against the regime’s plans to annex part of the territory.
In Tulkarem, in the northern West Bank, dozens of demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans against illegal settlements and the plans by the Zionist regime, which could move ahead as soon as next month.
An AFP reporter at the scene said that Zionist troops fired stun grenades and tear gas to repel protesters.
Further protests were expected in the West Bank cities of Ramallah, al-Khalil and Nablus.
Palestinians are vocal in their opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East plan, which gives the Zionist regime the green light to annex settlements and other strategic territory in the West Bank.
Such annexations would violate international law and likely inflame tensions in the volatile region.
A senior Palestinian official on Friday said ending the regime’s occupation is an international responsibility.
Ending the occupation is a responsibility that rests with the international community, which must enable the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination, Saeb Erekat, secretary-general of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, said in a press statement.
Erekat accused the Zionist regime and the U.S. of liquidating Palestinian rights by announcing the occupying regime’s plan of annexing Palestinian lands.
The Palestinian National Council (PNC) on Thursday reiterated the commitment to implementing the decision to disengage from all the agreements with the Zionist regime and the United States.
The PNC, the highest legislative body of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), convened in the West Bank city of Ramallah, stressing that the Palestinian leadership’s decision comes in defense of rights, said a PNC statement, published by the official Palestinian News Agency (WAFA).
"There is no alternative to ending the occupation and restoring the legitimate rights to freedom, independence and return,” said the statement.
The PNC warned that the Zionist regime’s policies and measures "reflect the determination of the Israeli regime to continue occupying the lands of the Palestinian state, and dragging the region toward further deterioration and escalation.”
