TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday underlined Iran’s resolve to implement a "leap in production” which has been declared by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as the country’s goal this year.
Addressing inauguration of several major water projects in Sistan and Baluchestan via videoconference, Rouhani said neither the coronavirus nor the "U.S. virus” can impede the Islamic Republic’s path of progress.
Iran is under the most draconian U.S. sanctions ever, aimed at bringing the country to the negotiating table over its nuclear and defense capabilities.
But Rouhani said the U.S. sanctions cannot force Iran to give up. "The inauguration of these big projects more than two years after the imposition of the sanctions is a testimony to this.”
"The coronavirus and problems as such cannot stop our production even as they are not without effects. Both the coronavirus and the U.S. virus have impacts but none of them can stop us,” he added.
Iran, Rouhani said, will continue production and make all-out efforts to achieve the goal set by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
