Heavy Floods Wreak Havoc in Southeast Iran

TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Heavy floods in southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan and two neighboring provinces have killed one person and wounded several others.
Thousands of people are displaced after severe rainfall and flooding blocked roads and destroyed houses Kerman, Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan provinces.
Morteza Salimi, the head of Rescue and Relief Organization of Iran, said one person had died and another remained missing.  
Flooding has also blocked rural roads link more than 500 villages, officials said.
In about 40 town and villages in Sistan and Baluchestan, authorities rescued at least 1,248 people and provided emergency accommodation for some 327 people.
Flooding has also affected 300 villages in Kerman Province, where many villages are also covered by heavy snow, according to local official Majid Saeedi.
"Links to the rural areas remain blocked due to the long distance from the main roads and the mountainous areas,” he said.
Since the rainfall started on Friday, the province has received more than 100 millimeters of rain, which according to officials, is equivalent to the average annual rainfall in the region.
