Int’l Rock Climbing Festival Begins in Western Iran

KERMANSHAH (IRNA) – The 3rd Bisotoun Rock Climbing Festival in neighboring mountains of Iran’s archeological Bisotoun City began on Sunday evening.
The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by the provincial mountaineering federation officials and a group of Iranian and foreign rock climbers cliff-hangers in Bisotoun Abbasi Traditional Hotel.
120 Iranian and 60 foreign climbers from Italy, France, Switzerland, the United States, Austria, Germany, Poland, Tunisia, and Denmark will climb the rocks of Bisotoun Mountain.
The first and second Bosotoun Stone Climbing Festivals were held respectively in October 2010 and 1012.
Climbing the formerly climbed paths and opening a new climbing path called Susan, rope walking of the climbers in high altitudes and bungee jumping are among the programmed features of this third festival.
The 1,200 meter high Bisotoun stone wall with its more than 5,000 square meters area is the largest of its kind in Iran and among the most professional ones in the world.
The wall that is adjacent to Iran’s ancient Bisotoun City is located 30 kilometers from Iran’s northwestern Kermanshah City, the provincial capital city of a province with the same name.
