Iran’s Medals in Incheon Para Asiad

INCHEON (Press TV) - Iran has bagged 19 medals, including five gold’s in the first day of 2014 Asian Para Games in South Korea’s Incheon.
On Sunday, the Iranians also took 12 silver and three bronze medals in different sport fields for physically challenged athletes so as to stand in the fourth spot of the tournament’s table.
Sareh Javanmardi took a gold medal in women’s shooting and Iranian swimmer Vahid Keshtkar bagged another in the 400-meter freestyle competition, which he finished within 2:25.51.
The three other gold medals were gained in the field of athletics. Alireza Mokhtari won the first title in discus throw with 817 scores while, in the 1,500-meter class, Peyman Nasiri finished first with a record of 4:00.29 and Erfan Hosseini won the fifth gold for the Iranian team with 940 scores in javelin throw.
Many of Iran’s silver medals were also bagged in athletics. Javid Ehsani, Sajjad Nikparast, and Mohsen Kaedi pocketed silver in Javelin Throw. Sadeq Beitsayyah and Hassan Dehqani both finished second in shot put. And Azam Khodayari and Hajar Golestani grabbed silver in women’s discus throw.
Ali Elahi and Hamid Eslami were among others who took silver medals in other track and field sections.
Moreover, Mohammad Hossein Karimi finished second in a 400-meter freestyle swimming competition and Shahin Izadyar also grabbed a sliver and a bronze in two different categories of the 50-meter freestyle.
Finally, athletics brought Iran two other bronze medals in discus throw by Younes Seifipour and Fatemeh Montazeri.
About 4,500 athletes from 41 countries are competing in this round of the tourney also known as the Second Asian Para Games.
Iran is currently in the fourth spot below China, Japan, and South Korea with 54, 32, and 27 medals, respectively.
