Iraqi Parties on the Right Track for Forming Broad-based Government

By: Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

As we said in our Viewpoint Column of June 13, Wednesday, on horse trading in the 329-seat hung parliament of Iraq: "parties that topped the results of last month’s parliamentary polls are on the right track in efforts to form a coalition government, based on the political, religious, and ethnic patchwork of the Land of the Two Rivers.”
Yes, we repeat the sentence "they are on the right track”. This was evident again on Sunday June 23 in the holy city of Najaf, where the 54-seat "as-Sairoon” of Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Moqtada as-Sadr which on June 12 had sealed formal alliance with the 47-seat "al-Fath” of Hadi al-Ameri, the renowned leader of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), announced alliance as well with outgoing Prime Minister Haider al-Ebadi’s 42-seat "an-Nasr”.
This means the total tally of the three leading parties stands at 143 seats – still 22 short of the required quota for forming the government.
Sadr, who himself is not a candidate for the prime minister’s post since he didn’t contest the polls and acts as spiritual guide, is confident of mustering the remaining number of seats through talks with the marginal winners that includes former prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki’s "al-Qanoun”, the ethnic Kurds and the Sunni Muslim minority.
This way a broad-based government could be formed representing the various political, religious and ethnic groups of Iraq (including Christians), which is essential for safeguarding the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Land of the Rivers Tigris and Euphrates that serves as a vital link between the Iranian Plateau and the Levant – the core of the Resistance Front against Zionism, Takfirism and American Imperialism.
Thus, whatever the composition of the new government, and whoever its prime minister, the prime goal should be cleansing the country of all vestiges of terrorism and this requires Iraq’s coordination with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Syria and the emerging representative government in Lebanon, of which the legendry anti-terrorist movement, the Hezbollah, is all set to be a vital part.
Saturday’s cross-border airstrike ordered by Haider al-Ebadi in the Hajin region of Syria’s Deir Az Zor province – the second in a month – that killed some 45 leading Daesh terrorists, is indicative of such cooperation among countries of the Resistance Front, which ought to be on guard against plots being hatched by the unholy alliance of the US, Israel, and reactionary Arab regimes, especially after the martyrdom earlier this month of over 50 members of Iraq’s PMU at the Albu Kamal border in Syria by drones jointly operated by Washington and Tel Aviv.
The PMU has vowed revenge, and is expected to make the aggressors pay dearly at the appropriate time, which means it should have the full backing of the Iraqi government, the Syrian army which is in the process of liberating Daraa on the Jordan border, and of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The archenemy of the Muslims, is without the least doubt, the US, whose forces should on no account be allowed to stay in the region, whether in Iraq, in Syria or any other neighbouring country where Washington may have bases.
This is not wishful thinking, but an urgent necessity for the joint progress and development of the whole of West Asia, where presently blood is flowing like water in Yemen because of the war launched on the most impoverished Arab country by Saudi Arabia and the UAE at the behest of the US and the Zionist entity.
The reign of terror in Bahrain, the repression of the people of the eastern oil-rich region of the Arabian Peninsula, and the plight of the Palestinians, will only end when the people and representative governments of the region make common cause for the sake of Islam against the forces of darkness that worship at the altar of the Great Satan.
Therefore, Iraq, which is home to the holy shrines of several of the Infallible Imams of Prophet Muhammad’s (SAWA) Blessed Household, and where the city of Kufa will be the seat of the global government of Imam Mahdi (AS), has a vital role to play on the basis of unity of its people and in coordination with the other countries of the Resistance Front, otherwise terrorism might again raise its ugly head, and this time in a most macabre manner (worse than what the tyrant Saddam and the Takfiris did), since the devilish forces in occupation of Bayt al-Moqaddas and of Hijaz the Land of Revelation, have sworn together to destabilize and destroy the entire heartland of Islam.
