Iran’s Rational Policies Acclaimed at the UN

By Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

The Iranian delegation to the annual UN General Assembly Session in New York, led by President Hassan Rouhani who is scheduled to address the world from the World Body’s podium on Wednesday, September 20, has attracted a lot of attention from delegations of world countries as well as the media.
There has been a flurry of meetings between Iranian officials and their counterparts from various world countries, and support has been voiced for the Islamic Republic’s rational policies, whether in the region or concerning the nuclear accord that was finalized in Geneva in 2015 between Iran the 5+1 group made up of Germany and the five self-imposed permanent members of the UN Security Council – the US, Britain, France, Russia and China.
For instance French president, Emmanuel Macron, in his meeting with Hojj at-Islam Rouhani, voiced support for the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), and was critical of threats of the quixotic US president, Donald Trump.
Rouhani in his interview with CNN in New York, while outlining Iran’s positon on various international issues including the genocide of Muslims in Myanmar and the victories of the Syrian and Iraqi governments over the US-Saudi-Israeli-backed terrorists, who are on the verge of total annihilation, made it clear that Tehran pursues the policy of peace, stability and cooperation at the regional and international levels, and if Washington were to carry out its threats of leaving JCPOA, it would be made to pay a very high price.
In related news, the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief, Italy’s Federica Mogherini, who is in New York for the UN General Assembly Session, made it clear on Monday that the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries works fine and belongs to the entire world, not just the United States.
Much to the chagrin of the US, she said: "I have said many times that the agreement is working fine, [and] the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) [has] confirmed several times that Iran is fulfilling its obligations.”
British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson who met his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif at the UN on Monday, also expressed his country’s firm support for efforts made to ensure implementation of the JCPOA.
It is obvious that Trump’s illogical remarks on the JCPOA as well as against North Korea, have painted him in a corner, and he will further isolate his country, which is internationally known as the world’s topmost terrorist state.
His roguish nature was fully evident in his speech from the UN podium on Tuesday when he leveled wild charges against the Islamic Republic of Iran, praised countries with a proven record of state terrorism and support for terrorists (Saudi Arabia and the illegal Zionist entity), derided liberation movements (Hezbollah, Ansaralla, Hamas) ignored the genocide of Muslims in Myanmar, and thundered fresh threats against North Korea by calling its Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un "rocketman”, while he himself sits on the world’s most dangerous nuclear arsenal, which he criminally threatens to use.
Observers point out that Trump’s foolish remarks of destroying North Korea will certainly not go unanswered, and in the end he will have to eat the humble pie.
If Trump ignites a nuclear war with fiendish relish that the radiation fallout will be detrimental to China and Russia, he will be in for a surprise, and will be dragging the US towards its doom – for no fault of the misled American people.
To sum up, his theatrics from the UN podium, in sharp contrast to Iran’s firm policy of global nuclear disarmament and international justice, once again proved that it is Washington and not Tehran, which is public enemy number one.
