Afghanistan, Iran Dismiss Certain Efforts to Hurt Ties
TEHRAN -- Iran’s embassy in Kabul and the Taliban said Wednesday that efforts by certain media to disrupt relations between the Islamic Republic and Afghanistan are unsuccessful as the two countries enjoy strong and friendly cooperation.
They said some sections of the hostile media had been trying to use issues related to Afghan refugees in Iran and the share of Hirmand river to harm relations between the two neighbors.
The embassy touched on the presence of four millions of Afghan refugees in Iran, reiterating that Tehran has always stood by Afghanistan, especially when Western governments left it to its means and froze the country’s assets after the Taliban overtook the country.
Plots to damage solidarity between the two countries will fail with the vigilance of both nations, it added.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid told BBC that Afghanistan’s ties with Iran are cordial, and the militant group is happy with the level of their cooperation.
An official at the Iranian embassy in Kabul said it is natural to expect problems created for some Afghans among four million refugees living in Iran for four decades.
Iran, however, will not allow anyone to damage its relations with Afghanistan with which it has always stood on the strength of their shared border, religion, language and culture.
