UN Says to Cut Aid to Yemen

NEW YORK (Dispatches) – The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that it will soon have to reduce the volume of food aid provided to 11 million Yemenis due to lack of funding.
“Funding shortages are threatening to cut lifesaving support for millions of people in Yemen,” OCHA said on Twitter, noting that 11 million people would “soon have to rely on reduced food rations and 4.6 million could lose access to clean water.”
The humanitarian organization added that further cuts were expected “unless additional support is urgently received.”
The UN World Food Programme recently said that eight million Yemenis would receive reduced food rations “as of January 2022, due to lack of funding,” warning that five million Yemenis were “at risk of starvation.”
Saudi Arabia began leading many of its allies in a full-scale war on the impoverished country in March 2015. The war and the simultaneous siege have been aimed at changing Yemen’s ruling structure in favor of the country’s former Riyadh- and Washington-friendly countries.
The military campaign that has killed tens of thousands of Yemenis, enjoys all-out arms, logistical, and political support on the part of the United States.
