Hariri’s Unsung Exit From Politics!

By: Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

Reports from Lebanon indicate that former Prime Minister Sa’d Hariri has quit politics and will not run in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for May 15.
Maybe this is a political stunt and a desperate attempt to uplift the sagging image of his Future Movement which is viewed by the majority of Lebanese people as nothing more than a group of Saudi agents serving US interests, instead of striving for any national cause.
Whatever the reason behind Hariri’s decision, the fact cannot be denied that in the first place he wasn’t a politician at all, let alone having the qualities to be leader of any political/religious group.
The reason he was propelled to power was the US-Zionist engineered assassination of his father, the former prime minister, Rafiq Hariri, a Lebanese national who had become a millionaire while working in Saudi Arabia, and had accepted Saudi nationality.
The Ta’ef Accord that was concluded in Saudi Arabia involving all Lebanese groups following the end of the 15-year long civil war in 1990 had resulted in the prime minister’s post being given to Rafiq Hariri as per the constitutional clause that the premier ought to be a Sunni Muslim.
Rafiq had his own merits and demerits, but with the backing of the Sunni lawmakers he had managed to gain the confidence of the voters, especially because of his relations with Riyadh and the other oil-rich sheikhdoms of the Persian Gulf where he had business interests.
Sa’d, however, sorely lacks both political prudence and economic acumen, and is viewed by his own reluctant supporters as a liability, rather than an asset to the 26 percent Lebanese who profess the Sunni faith.
He is also devoid of any diplomatic deliberation as the Christians, Shi’a Muslims, Druze, and others have discovered during talks where he falters and speaks without any reason and rhyme, similar to what he said in his statement to the press on the reason for his decision to quit politics.
The person, who despite being the prime minister of Lebanon, was summoned to Riyadh a few years and slapped by the notorious MBS (Mohamed bin Salman the Heir Apparent), with instructions to announce his resignation on Saudi TV, again tried to blame the Islamic Republic of Iran and its principled support for the independence, dignity, and sovereignty of the Lebanese people – whatever their political or religious affiliations.
Sadly, Sa’d seems to have been brainwashed by the US, which because of its fears of Lebanon’s legendry anti-terrorist movement, the Hezbollah and its role as a bulwark against Zionist aggression and American influence, has plunged the country into an economic crisis, and unable to dupe the Lebanese Christians, is pressuring the so-called Future Movement into total submission.
In short, whatever the US-Zionist devilish designs for Lebanon, Hariri’s exit will not cause even the slightest ripples in the country’s political spheres, where his image is that of an irrational and undiplomatic person totally unsuited to lead Sunni Muslims.
