Iran Condemns Zionist Aggression Against Latakia
TEHRAN – Iran’s foreign ministry on Wednesday condemned the occupying regime of Israel’s new aerial aggression against Syria’s Mediterranean port of Latakia, which targeted food and medicine stocks for the second time this month.
In a statement, ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the attack by the Zionist regime amounts to aggression against a UN member state, and brazen violation of Syria’s sovereignty, and is a clear example of Israel’s bid to create crisis and chaos in the region, besides being an inhumane and immoral action.
“The leaders of the regime, who can’t brook stability, security and calm in the region and have defined their security in making the region as unsafe and as unstable as possible, have violated and mocked all international laws by launching successive attacks on the Syrian soil under bogus and baseless pretexts,” he said.
The government and nation of the Syrian Arab Republic have a legitimate right to self-defense against the aggressors, Khatibzadeh added.
The spokesman called on world countries and the international community to take necessary measures to prevent a repeat of such attacks which threaten regional peace and security, warning that their silence would encourage and give the green light to the Zionist regime to continue its acts of aggression.
Latakia on Tuesday came under another Israeli air raid , causing “significant material damage”, according to Syrian state media.
SANA said the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression with several missiles from the direction of the Mediterranean, targeting the container yard in Latakia port.
The missile attack also wrecked the facades of a hospital, some residential buildings and shops.
