UN Approves Six Anti-Zionist Resolutions
NEW YORK (Dispatches) – The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday adopted six resolutions that single out or condemn the Zionist regime.
The texts condemn the regime for “repressive measures” against Syrian citizens in the occupied Golan Heights and renew the mandates of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) as well as the UN’s “special committee to investigate Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the occupied territories.”
The six resolutions were previously adopted on November 9th by the General Assembly’s Special Political and Decolonization Committee, known as the Fourth Committee and on Thursday were formally ratified by the General Assembly.
The package of six anti-Zionist resolutions approved in New York on Thursday is part of a package of 14 texts on the Zionist regime that the UNGA plans to pass by the end of the year.
Palestine on Friday welcomed the passing of resolutions. In a statement, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said the adoption of the resolutions reflected the support of the international community to the Palestinian rights.
Without naming any country, he rejected “blackmailing” by some countries to discourage other nations from voting for Palestine.
The resolution to provide assistance to Palestinian refugees got 164 votes, with only the Zionist regime voting against it and 10 other countries abstaining.
The second resolution on the operations of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) got 162 votes.
The third resolution related to the regime’s practices and settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, titled “work of the special committee to investigate Israeli practices and settlement activities affecting the rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the occupied territories”, got 80 votes in favor, with 18 countries opposing and 73 abstaining.
The fourth resolution highlighting the occupying regime’s settlements across the Palestinian occupied territories, including East Al-Quds and the settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, was passed with 146 votes in favor, seven against, and 20 abstentions.
The fifth resolution on the “Palestine refugees’ properties and their revenues” was passed with 159 votes in favor, five against, and eight abstentions.
The General Assembly also approved a resolution declaring that the Zionist regime’s decision to impose its jurisdiction in Syria’s Golan Heights with the aim of changing the character and legal status of the strategic territory are “null and void” and constitute a flagrant violation of international law.
A total of 149 countries supported the resolution, entitled “The Occupied Syrian Golan”, the United States and the Zionist regime voted against it, and 23 abstained.
The resolution called on the regime as the occupying power to undertake its obligations as to the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, especially United Nations Security Council resolution 497 – adopted unanimously on December 17, 1981, which declares the Israeli annexation of the area as “null and void and without international legal effect” and further calls on the Tel Aviv regime to rescind its action.
