Lebanon’s Hezbollah Calls on PM to Convene Cabinet
BERITU (MEMO) – A member of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc affiliated with Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement, MP Hassan Ezz El-Din, has called on Prime Minister Najib Mikati to end the obstacles that prevent the cabinet from convening, Anadolu reported.
“We demand the prime minister and the concerned officials lift the obstacles and end the causes that prevent it from meeting, so that it can relaunch with vitality, seriousness and effectiveness, and work to secure people’s needs,” Ezz El-Din said.
“Some judges have deviated from the legal and constitutional path, and followed mechanisms that lead to politicization, selectivity and populism,” he added.
Government meetings have been suspended since 13 October 2020 due to the insistence of ministers to discuss the Beirut Port explosion investigation and dismiss investigation Judge Tariq Al-Bitar.
Ezz El-Din said, “Judge Al-Bitar caused more division and sectarianism” and called to “immunize the judiciary from political and other interference in order to preserve justice.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Mikati called for “patience in calling for convening the government, in the hope that everyone will be convinced to distance the cabinet from everything that has nothing to do with it”.
“We agreed that the judiciary is independent, and that any problem is solved in the judiciary and in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, without any political interference” he said.
