TBILISI, Georgia – Iranian powerlifter Ali Akbar Gharibshahi has won a gold medal in the 2021 World Para Powerlifting Championships and also broke the world record in the 107kg weight category.
He shattered the world record by lifting 251kg. The old record was 247kg.
Mongolian Sodnompiljee Enkhbayar won the silver with 244kg.
Gharibshahi’s compatriot Saman Razi won a bronze with a lift of 235kg.
The tournament is one of the compulsory tournaments to qualify for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France.
The competition concluded on Sunday in Tbilisi, Georgia.
