Iran, Syria Sign 4 Cooperation Documents
TEHRAN – Deputy of the Iranian
Industry, Mining, and Trade Minister Alireza Peyman-Pak on Wednesday said that during the visit of the Iranian Industry, Mining, and Trade Minister Reza Fatemi Amin to Syria, four cooperation documents were signed between the two countries, said an official at the ministry.
The Iranian Industry, Mining, and Trade Minister Reza Fatemi Amin in his visit to Syria met and held talks on the industrial cooperation between the two the countries with the Syrian minister of economy and foreign trades.
He added that four cooperation documents were signed during the trade committee and industrial committee sessions between the two countries.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the official pointed out that the Iranian minister on his visit to Syria visited several places including Iran House of Innovation and Technology and Iran’s trade center in Damascus, as well as the Syrian-Iranian Automobile Manufacturing Company (SIAMCO) and Kaveh Glass manufactory in Adra Industrial City.
Iran Ready to Restore Syria’s Closed Factories
Fatemi Amin expressed the country’s readiness to bring back to life Syrian factories that were shut down after the outbreak of war in the Arab country.
Speaking to reporters after visiting a number of factories in an industrial complex near Damascus, the Iranian minister said he has traveled to Syria to help rejuvenate the Arab country’s industries, specifically the textile industry, and help them regain the position that has been damaged in the wake of the war.
In a ceremony, attended by the visiting Iranian minister, the Islamic Republic opened its first trade center in Syria in the Free Zone of the Damascus.
The Iranian trade center hosts offices of major Iranian trade and manufacturing companies, including those active in agriculture and construction activities.
In comments in July, the foreign minister of Syria said his country has been rid of crisis and was ready to promote economic and trade cooperation with friendly nations, including Iran, in the reconstruction era.
The chairman of Syria-Iran Chamber of Commerce had announced earlier that Iranian companies have priority over others for carrying out projects in the reconstruction process of Syria after years of war.
In November 2019, Iran and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding to establish three joint companies to accelerate the reconstruction of the Arab country, which has been stricken by years of foreign-backed civil war.
Iran Opens Trade Center
in Damascus
On Tuesday, Iran opened its first trade center in Syria amid efforts to boost economic exchanges between the two allied countries.
Syria’s official SANA agency reported, in a ceremony attended by visiting Iranian trade minister Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin, a center was opened in the Free Zone of the capital Damascus.
The report said that the Iranian trade center will host offices of major Iranian trade and manufacturing companies, including those active in agriculture and construction activities.
Keyvan Kashfi, a businessman watching over private sector trade between Iran and Syria, told Iran’s IRNA agency that the center will help boost the presence of Iranian companies in Syria at a time the Arab country is seeking increased foreign investment to emerge from nearly a decade of terrorism and war.
Iran has declared its full support for Syria’s reconstruction efforts. Fatemi Amin, who also heads Iranian government’s departments on mines and industries, reiterated the pledge on Tuesday as he visited a number of factories closed by the war in the Adra region on the outskirts of Damascus.
The minister said Iran will be ready to help Syria rebuild its manufacturing sector, especially the once-booming textile industry in the Arab country.
On the third and final day of his trip to Syria, Fatemi Amin also held a key meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous on Tuesday while he also opened a second trade fair dedicated to the Iranian companies in Syria.
The minister was set to finalize a free trade agreement between Iran and Syria during his visit to Damascus. There was no mention of the deal in reports in the Iranian or Syrian media outlets about the trip.
