Iranian Photographers Receive China’s Zhuhai Photography Awards
TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The 4th Zhuhai International Photography Exhibition in China has awarded Iranian photographers Ahmad Khatiri, Elmira Foruzani and Mohammad Esteki.
Khatiri’s award-winning photo ‘Girl Flies in Prayer’ received the PSA Gold Medal of the Open Mono section of the event, rewarded by the Photographic Society of America.
‘Girl Flies in Prayer’ depicts a little girl opening her arms like wings among a group of Muslims during a congregational prayer.
‘Girl Flies in Prayer’ has previously been honored at some international photography contests across the world, including an honorable mention at a contest organized by the Gruppo Operativo Fotografico Ascoli Piceno (GOFAP) in Italy in 2020.
Khatiri’s other works have also been honored at several other photography competitions and won prizes in some of them.
He is a member of the International Federation of Photographic World (Fiap) and also a member of the Society of Iranian Photographers.
Captured by Elmira Foruzani, ‘Accordion Boy’, which shows an Iranian boy playing accordion in the hustle and bustle of a street, also grabbed the FIAP Bronze Medal of the Zhuhai photo event.
Mohammad Estaki was also honored by a PSA Honorable Mention for his photo ‘Cry Underwater’, which shows a man attending a Muslim religious mourning ritual.
The winners were picked from nearly 4000 entries from 44 countries by a professional jury grid consisting of Ali Samei, Stefan Toth, Lai Rongzhao, Peng Bang and Zhang Hui.
The exhibition is organized every year in collaboration with the Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP), the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and Euro Foto Art (EFA).
The selected photos of the competition will go on display in an exhibit, which will take place from December 9 to 31 in Zhuhai, a modern city in China’s southern Guangdong Province.
