23rd GECF Ministerial Meeting to Be Held on Tuesday

TEHRAN -- The 23rd Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) will be held by video conference on Tuesday, November 16, 2021
The annual meeting of the GECF Ministers will be held on Tuesday to be chaired by Algeria. This meeting and related events are being held via video conference due to the coronavirus pandemic.
At the 23rd GECF Ministerial Meeting, the ministers of petroleum and energy of the GECF Member States will consider and select the Secretary-General of the Forum from among the five candidates for the post.
Five countries - Iran, Algeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Libya and Nigeria - have nominated themselves for the post of GECF Secretary-General.
Current issues related to the gas industry and related areas such as geopolitics, economics and energy sustainability will be among the issues to be discussed during the meeting.
GECF member states account for 44% of world gas production, 67% of world gas reserves, 64% of pipeline transportation and 66% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade.
Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela and the UAE are the four main members of the GECF, and the Netherlands, Norway, Iraq, Oman, Peru and Azerbaijan are observer members of the forum
