TEHRAN -- A senior Iranian Judiciary official has criticized the West’s double standards on the issue of human rights in Iran, saying the so-called defenders of human rights turn a blind eye to acts of terror and illegal sanctions targeting the Iranian nation and level allegations of rights abuses against the Islamic Republic.
In a post on his Twitter account, Kazem Gharibabadi, the Judiciary chief’s deputy for international affairs and secretary of the country’s High Council for Human Rights, said he had raised the issue during a meeting of Iranian Judiciary chief Gholamhussein Mohseni-Ejei with resident ambassadors and heads of international organizations.
“In the meeting of diplomatic community with the Judiciary Head, I raised a point: Iran is a victim of terrorism, 17000 of innocent people have been martyred by MKO terrorist group which is freely moving in European safe heavens, 5 nuclear scientists have been assassinated,” he said.
Gharibabadi was referring to the Mujahedin Khalq Organization, an anti-Iran terrorist cult whose elements enjoy freedom of activity in the U.S. and Europe and even hold regular meetings in which European and American officials make speeches.
The notorious group has conducted numerous assassinations and bombings against Iranian statesmen and civilians since the 1979 victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. Its members fled Iran in 1986 for Iraq, where they enjoyed backing from former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
A few years ago, MKO terrorists were relocated from their Camp Ashraf in Iraq’s Diyala Province to Camp Liberty, a former U.S. military base in Baghdad, and later sent to Albania.
Also in his tweet, Gharibabadi said, “Iran’s big hero to combat terrorism was martyred by the U.S. regime, Iran is under inhumane U.S. sanctions.”
He was pointing to the U.S. assassination of Iran’s legendary anti-terror commander General Qassem Soleimani in Iraq in early 2020, as well as the sanctions imposed on Iran following the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal.
The Judiciary official further complained that “those who have closed their eyes on these atrocities or supporting them are seen as human rights defenders, while Iran is being accused of human rights violations!”
