Iranian Films Sweep Awards at Barcelona Event
TEHRAN (IFILM) -- Iranian film ‘Walnut Tree’ has succeeded to receive two accolades at the 2021 Asian Film Festival Barcelona (AFFBCN) in Spain.
Directed by Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian, ‘Walnut Tree’ received the Best Film Award and Best Director Award at the event.
‘Drown’, directed by Mohammad Kart, also won the Best Screenplay Award at the Asian Film Festival Barcelona.
Based on a true story, ‘Walnut Tree’ is a film about the chemical bombings of a region in northwestern Iran by the U.S.-backed former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein.
Written by Ebrahim Amini and Hossein Hassani, ‘The Walnut Tree’ enjoys famous Iranian actors Peyman Maadi, Mina Sadati and Mehran Modiri.
The film previously participated in the 38th Fajr Film Festival and garnered Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director awards.
‘Walnut Tree’ has already been screened at the 24th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (POFF) in Estonia, the 43rd Moscow International Film Festival and the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival in China.
The flick is also the recipient of the best film award at the 20th Baikal International Film Festival in Russia.
The AFFBCN includes meetings, conferences and seminars.
The 2021 edition of the Barcelona festival was held on October 27-November 7.
