Syria: Zionist Aggression Desperate Attempt to Support Terrorists
DAMASCUS (Dispatches) – The Zionist regime waged a new aggression on southern Syria on Monday, as part of its repeated aggression on the sovereignty of the Arab Republic’s territory.
The Syrian media reported on Monday that Zionist helicopters had hit three targets on the outskirts of the town of al-Baath as well as other locations in southern Syria. Two of the sites were observation posts reportedly used by the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, while the third target was a site next to a Syrian military facility. The strikes caused “material damage,” but there was no immediate word on casualties.
“That brutal aggression comes after reconciliations in Dara’a governorate were completed and following the restoration of security and safety to the region, in a desperate attempt by the Israeli occupation entity to support its tools and agents of the defeated terrorist groups,” an official source at Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement, SANA news agency reported.
The government forces, within the framework of an August agreement, began mop-up operations in the city of al-Harak and its surroundings in the southwestern province of Dara’a days ago.
The source added that Syria strongly condemns that flagrant aggression of the Zionist regime, which further escalates the tense situation in the region, and affirms Syria’s right and ability to respond to those attacks and curb the aggressive approach of the occupation authorities.
The official also affirmed Syria’s right and ability to respond to such brutal attacks and curb the occupying regime’s aggressive approach.
The Syrian army units have over the past weeks reinforced their positions in the cities, towns and villages of the countryside of Dara’a after entering the region and raising Syria’s national flag there.
Under a truce deal brokered by Russia and reached on August 14, militants were obliged to hand over their weapons, and government forces were due to install checkpoints in nine districts of Dara’a al-Balad.
The Zionist regime frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of Hezbollah’s, which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.
The Tel Aviv regime mostly keeps quiet about its attacks on Syrian territories, which many view as knee-jerk reaction to Syrian government’s increasing success in confronting terrorism.
The Zionist regime has been a main supporter of terrorist groups that have opposed the government of President Bashar al-Assad since foreign-backed militancy erupted in Syria nine years ago.
