TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in South Korea has awarded Iranian doc ‘The Silhouettes’.
Directed by Afsaneh Salari, the feature-length documentary won Next Award at the 13th edition of the South Korean event.
Next Award is a special award established in collaboration with Gyeonggi Film School Association. A cash prize of KRW 3,000,000 and a trophy will be given to a selected film by the student jury panel.
‘The Silhouettes’ is about an Afghan family that had left their homeland 40 years ago to start a new life in Iran.
Now their son who is an engineering student wants to return to Afghanistan to live and work there, but the family opposes his plan.
The doc has gone on screen at a number of global events and won honors such as ‘Docs In Progress’ award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic, special mention at the Visions du Réel in Switzerland, first prize at the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival in Nepal, and Emerging Filmmaker award at the Thin Line Film Music Fest in the U.S.
The DMZ is one of Asia’s most important documentary film festivals.
The Korean event is the largest festival of its kind in Asia, aiming to introduce outstanding documentaries as well as to support talented filmmakers and promising projects to be discovered by a wider audience.
Its vision is to become the leading documentary film festival in Asia with the theme of peace, communication, and life.
The 13th edition of the event, offering 126 films from 39 countries, was held on September 9-16 in South Korea.
