U.S. Base, Logistics Targeted in Iraq, Syria
DAMASCUS (Dispatches) – Two missiles targeted a U.S. military base in the Koniko gas field on the outskirts of Dayr al-Zawr in eastern Syria, Syria’s state-run SANA news agency reported.
The news organization quoted local sources in Dayr al-Zawr as saying that the Koniko gas field base was targeted by two missiles, but it was not confirmed whether the attack resulted in injuries or casualties.
The agency gave no further details about the party responsible for the attack.
There has been a rise in such attacks on U.S.-run bases in Syria’s oil-reach eastern regions in recent months.
On June 28, a rocket attack hit the U.S.-occupied al-Omar oil field in Dayr al-Zawr, wounding several American forces and allied militants from the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), according to local sources.
Earlier that month, the U.S. base near the al-Omar oil field had been hit in a similar attack.
Meanwhile, amid growing calls for the expulsion of American troops from Iraq, a U.S. military convoy has been attacked in the country’s central part, a news outlet affiliated with Iraq’s resistance groups reports.
The logistics convoy was targeted in Babylon Province, Sabereen News reported on Wednesday, without providing further details.
Sabereen News also reported that a huge explosion had occurred near a U.S. military base in Iraq.
The nature of the incident is still unknown, it added.
Dozens of attacks on U.S. troops have been reported across Iraq in recent months, as calls for the expulsion of American troops from the Arab country intensify.
Last week, at least seven convoys carrying logistical equipment for American forces came under attack in different locations across Iraq.
Iraq’s resistance groups have vowed not to lay down their arms or cease their struggle until the expulsion of all American troops.
