Pakistani FM Underlines Iran’s Role in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (IRNA) -- Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is scheduled to begin a regional tour including the Islamic Republic of Iran from Tuesday, on Monday stressed the importance of the regional actors such as Tehran to help establish lasting peace in Afghanistan.
“Afghanistan’s peace is inevitable for its neighbors and neighboring countries,” Qureshi said.
Islamabad, he said, seeks a regional consensus for Afghanistan and emphasizes that the role of neighbors in contributing to peace and stability in Afghanistan is a priority.
Referring to his plans to visit Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, Qureshi said the four neighboring countries want the participation of all groups in Afghanistan to form a national and inclusive government.
The Pakistani foreign minister rejected rumors of his secret visit to Kabul, saying some media outlets in the subcontinent have created an atmosphere aimed at spoiling the efforts of neighboring countries to help Afghanistan.
“As Afghanistan’s immediate neighbors, we must be vigilant against the enemies of peace, because they are still trying to sabotage everything,” he said.
