Iran’s Hassan Yazdani Claims Silver at Tokyo 2020
TEHRAN – Iranian freestyler wrestler claimed a silver medal in the 2020 Olympic Games on Thursday.
He was defeated against David Taylor from USA 4-3 in the final seconds of the match.
Yazdani secured back-to-back points to regain the lead by forcing Taylor out of bounds before the American was able to get the comeback in the final seconds of the match.
Zare Takes Bronze Medal
Iranian Free-style wrestler Amir Hussein Zare in the weight category of 125kg defeated his Chinese rival in qualifiers match and snatched a bronze medal.
Zare defeated his rival 5-0 and stood on the third position.
He had earlier overpowered Ukraine and advanced to quarterfinals.
He then defeated wrestler from Kosovo 13-2 and advanced to semifinal match.
During the semifinal match, Zare was defeated by Geno Petriashvili from Georgia and failed to advance final match.
Freestyle Wrestler Ghiasi Loses to Indian Rival
Iranian freestyle wrestler in the men’s 65kg weight category Morteza Ghiasi lost the quarterfinal match to his Indian rival Bajrang Punia on Friday.
The Iranian led 1-0 after 1st period but Bajrang made a comeback to counter an attacking move of his opponent and pinned him to win by fall.
In his first match earlier today, Ghiasi defeated Haithem Dakhlaoui from Tunisia 5-1.
Ghiasi still has a chance to fight in the repackage and win a bronze medal if Punia advances to the final.
The wrestling competition of the 2020 Summer Olympics is taking place at the Makuhari Messe in Mihama-ku.
