Hundreds of Art Works on View Online

TEHRAN (Honaronline) –The 29th edition of the 100 Works, 100 Artists Exhibition will go online for the second time due to the rapid spread of coronavirus, the organizer of the annual event said .
A selection of 495 artworks by 489 artists from different generations will be showcased online on the website and Instagram of Golestan Gallery in Tehran, Lili Golestan said.
“I really miss my gallery, especially its Fridays. However, the closure of galleries and avoidance of any kind of gatherings are inevitable until further notice,” she said.
The annual event, launched by gallery owner and curator Golestan in 1992, is one of the oldest visual art events in the country.
“The call for the exhibition was announced on June 27, and the deadline for submitting the artworks was July 6,” she said.
“I received 745 emails each including three to five artworks,” Golestan said, noting that after evaluations, 495 were selected to be showcased in the virtual exhibition.
Golestan, announcing the news that young people again are a majority of participants in the summer event, said, “In this period, 90 percent have been young people, and 10 percent are veteran and famous artists whose works were presented to the gallery by private art collectors.”
This year, participation of young artists from Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad and Shiraz were higher than others, Golesatan noted.
She added that the works are on sale at reasonable prices, and hoped that these difficult days would end soon and everything would return to what it was before.
Golestan, 74, founded Golestan Gallery in 1988 and since then has tried to help make it easy for people to buy and sell art, support new talent and young artists and take effective measures to expand the horizons of art.
Golestan is also a translator and art curator and daughter of the prominent filmmaker Ebrahim Golestan. She has translated more than 20 books and written essays and poetry alongside a source book, ‘The Oral History of Iran’s Contemporary Art’.
The exhibition will be held from August 6 to September 8.
