Documents: U.S. Pressured Yemen’s Saleh Into Normalizing Ties With Zionist Regime

SANA’A (Dispatches) – Newly-released official documents reveal the long-standing U.S. pressures on the former regime of Ali Abdullah Saleh to normalize relations between Sana’a and the Zionist regime and lift boycotts on the goods produced in the occupied territories.
Based on the documents released by the Yemeni Ministry of Information, the U.S. embassy had asked the Saleh regime to end the boycotts on the goods and not to participate in anti-Zionist campaigns.
The documents contained new evidence and details of the U.S. and Zionist regime frustration with the boycott of their goods, and how Washington pressured the Saleh regime to open the doors of Yemen to Zionist goods and companies.
Thomas Krajski, the U.S. ambassador to Sana’a in 2005, called on the then foreign minister of Saleh’s regime to push for lifting of boycotts of Zionist goods by Arab countries.
Based on the documents, the Saleh regime did not oppose the U.S. pressures to lift boycotts on the Zionist regime, and the then Yemeni foreign minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi told the U.S. ambassador that the boycotts on the U.S. and Zionist goods were not serious.
Furthermore, the documents reveal that the U.S. embassy urged the Yemeni foreign ministry not to dispatch representatives to an anti-Zionist event at the University of Damascus in Syria.
Moreover, the American diplomat described Yemen’s removal of boycott of Zionist products as the fundamental prerequisite for the Arab state’s membership in the World Trade Organization, and its access to free trade and international investment.
Last month, Spokesman for Yemen’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced that Yemeni security forces had arrested a man involved in espionage activities on behalf of the Zionist regime’s Mossad spy agency.
Saree said in a tweet at the time that more details on the matter will be provided in a documentary entitled “The Spy of Mossad in Yemen.”
The documentary will shed light on part of Israel’s intervention in the country and “the plan to target Yemen militarily, and other secrets revealed for the first time,” the senior Yemeni military figure pointed out.
The developments come as earlier reports said that the Zionist regime and the United Arab Emirates have been working to establish a spy base on Yemen’s strategically-located island of Socotra.
