Quake Hits Northwest Iranian City
TEHRAN -- A magnitude 4.5 earthquake hit near Piranshahr in Iran’s West Azarbaijan province on Friday.
The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter early evening at 7:41 pm local time. The quake did not cause any significant damage, but was felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking was felt in Piranshahr with a population of 62,000 located 20 km from the epicenter, Naqadeh 40 km away, and Oshnaviyeh.
